Hello, it's Hiro.
In the last article, I summarized learning English.
In conclusion, I recommended two choices, DMM English and Study SAPRI registration.
I have briefly summarized "three reasons why I do not recommend an English conversation school"
If you are considering enrolling in an English conversation school from now on, I would be grateful if you could refer to this perspective as well.
Slimy environment (group lessons have pitfalls)
It is an impression that I actually attended an English conversation school (a school famous for studying in front of the station) for about 3 months.
First of all, a simple proper inspection at the time of admission? You can choose between one-on-one lessons or group lessons by checking your preference for the lesson style here.
I think most people will choose group lessons here, but it's a fork in fate.
If you choose a group lesson, beginner to intermediate levels will be assigned to the lowest or second class from the bottom.
The problem is that the English conversation levels in the bottom and second classes are ridiculously low.
I will be with the class members for several months, but if there is even one unconscious student, everyone is out of luck.
(Some students come with the feeling that they want to make friends only ...)
I was assigned to the second class, but there was probably a high school boy who was clearly told by his parents and was reluctant to go.
Teacher
"How are you today?"
"What's new with you for this week?"
In response to the greeting from the instructor
student
"Nothing "
Nothing only..
Don't you think that you obviously lack the consciousness to learn even though you spend a lot of time paying a high monthly fee?
I've been there for three months, but I've only heard one word from him.
The class structure was 4 people, but the second level from the bottom is just the middle 2 level.
I attended the 10,000 yen Pokkiri course every Sunday four times a month for about three months, but I quit immediately because my motivation was low.
This is just an example of me, but I didn't get anything from the English conversation school for about 3 months.
If I think about it now, I could have asked the school to change classes, but my English level at that time was so low that I couldn't do that due to the pressure of entrainment.
It takes time like a fool to go to school
Since 2021 is a corona disaster, each school is appealing for flexibility such as online lessons, but if you pay the same amount of money to go to school,
You want to take a face-to-face lesson, right?
Depending on each environment, it will take time to go to school (minimum 10 minutes)
In the countryside, 30 minutes one way (1 hour round trip and 10 to 30 minutes to prepare)
In the early morning lessons on Sundays, foreign teachers are often delayed, and if you take a 40-minute lesson on Sundays, it will be crushed for half a day if you add up from the preparation.
What do you think, I was working late on weekdays, so I couldn't stand spending half of my holidays with low-learning high school students.
I quit.
Now that I think about it, I regret that I should have quit earlier.
Cost performance is not good
Probably every famous school costs more than 10,000 yen (4 times a month).
Don't you think that 10,000 yen is expensive for just 4 times?
If you take a course of 10,000 yen a month for one year, it will be 40 minutes x 4 times x 12 = 1,920 minutes (32 hours).
According to a survey by the US State Department's FSI, it takes about 3000 hours for Japanese to learn English.
At this pace, it will take 93.75 years.
In the case of Japanese people, they will be exposed to English for about 1000 hours in middle and high school, so even if 1000 hours are subtracted, it will take 62.5 years.
Even if you add the study time such as childhood and self-study, it will be calculated that there is not enough time at all.
After all, only two choices, DMM English and Study SAPRI, can be won
As of 2021, it is a corona disaster, so if you try to learn English face-to-face, the cost performance is very bad.
In comparison, with DMM, you can take classes as soon as you start up your PC (preparation time 0-5 minutes).
With study supplements, you can study videos whenever you want, so I think these two options are the way to go.
There are some Skype English schools that are cheaper than DMM English, so please try google and apply for a free trial lesson.
I also recommend Gungun English and rare jobs. There are various online schools, but the school with many instructors has a good impression that it is well managed.
I also recommend Youtube. It's free, so cost performance is the best.
Watching foreign dramas and movies also trains your listening skills.
I recommend that you watch the same overseas drama or movie repeatedly with subtitles and English subtitles. (My favorite is Friends. I've probably watched 100 times throughout the 10 seasons. BTS's RM also he learned English with Friends)
I think there is another way to find foreign friends at Ichina Live or BIGO LIVE.
In my case, on weekends, I stayed at a nearby overseas youth hostel (like a share house) for 1000 yen or less per night for consecutive nights.
By talking to foreigners who shared a room, going out drinking together as friends, and playing, I trained my english skill locally.
Minimal communication is required to survive, and I still think that if you understand middle school level English, suddenly jumping in is the quickest way. Recommended because it leads to unexpectedly.
Let's jump into the field, if you can't go online
The bottom line is that if you have the time and money to go to an English conversation school, it's better to go to the site, and if you have difficulty spending time, take lessons online.
I wonder if it suits the present era.
I think there are various opinions, but I hope that this way of thinking will be one of the options.
Regards,
hiro
